A Warning from Irving Roth

10/20/2012

This last Thursday we helped sponsor a Night to Stand with Israel where Irving Roth was to be our featured guest. Irving is a holocaust survivor and travels around the country telling his story to audiences of all ages. He goes to schools, universities, churches, anywhere he can to tell people that what he is seeing today has the earmarks of the events that led up to WWII. He is alarmed by how fast our country is falling for the same propaganda as Germany did.
Unfortunately, he had a slight heart attack Sunday evening and couldn't come. Randy Neal, who travels with him, came anyway and we got to meet Irving via video. It was not a disappointing evening by any means!
Irving was 15 when he lived to get out of the concentration camp, Auschwitz. He is adamant to educate the next generation to what is happening and the compelling evidence that this is necessary is what is happening on our college campuses. The hearts and minds of our children are being saturated with hatred for Israel and America!
I pray that we will consider how dangerous it is to be ignorant and silent!

Watchmen, eh?

10/11/2012

I've been thinking this week about what it means to be a "watchman on the wall." Isaiah 62:6 talks about how the Lord has posted these watchmen to be alert people who will never forget their responsibilities toward Jerusalem. This has been our theme for quite a while and I've been aware that God is working to call more of His children to this post.

While studying Matthew 11 I came across a verse that I didn't quite understand. Where Jesus spoke of John the Baptist He said; "From the days of John the Baptist until now, the Kingdom of Heaven has been forcefully advancing and forceful men lay hold of it."

After some research, I found that this verse implies a "dynamite" experience. That whatever this advancement was, it was like  dynamite that is exploding the way open. It is also directly linked to Micah 2:12-13 which is a "Messianic" passage. The picture is of a sheep pen where all the sheep are locked up and enslaved. But there is "one who breaks open the way" that "will go up before them; they will break through the gate and go out. ...[then] Their King will pass through before them, the LORD at their head."

Then I head to John 10 where I hear Jesus say "The watchman opens the gate for Him, and the sheep listen to His voice. He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out. ...I Am the gate for the sheep. ...I am the good shepherd."

John the Baptist was breaking open the way for Jesus to come. Could it be that we are called to be the "watchman" who opens the gate for Him?
Just a thought, eh?

These are such exciting days to be living in. God is working faster than ever and I really think that His love for me is mind boggling. I have to share a couple of things that I would like to bless you with.
1) A great read - "The Reconstruction of the Church - On What Pattern?" by E. Stanley Jones.
What impacts me about this book (and I'm only on page 31) is how he talks about how secularism has taken root in the Church (the Body) and that it has basically taken on the commandment "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." When Jesus had entered the scene, the main commandment that people kept was "Love the Lord thy God with all thine heart..." But He linked the two. You have to have both to fulfill the heart of God.
I love this because sometimes we get really caught up in one or the other without fulfilling both commandments. He pointed out that John 3:16 needs to be linked to 1 John 3:16. You should look at that! It's kind of great! I love E. Stanley Jones. His insights are awesome (even if he is dead!)
then;
2) I want to encourage you to not only watch how God works, but to see Him as He reveals Himself in the midst of His "working." Our Bible study yesterday talked about how sometimes we even get distracted by how God works and miss the opportunity to know Him better. It's like when a man proposes and the girl is more taken by the ring than the man! Can you imagine that! I have to laugh because we are so like that! We ask the Father for something and then He answers and we miss the point of His gift! And He still comes back to love us more!

How very thankful I am for a League of Extraordinary Women who love God's word and bless me with their friendships and wisdom.
Let me know if you find that book and read it! I love dialogue!

Watching the clouds gather

Last night at the Teacher and the Preacher evening, we, once again, heard about the current situation with Israel, our government and the state of the Middle East. There were about 200 in the audience and I believe there was a great interest and a new appreciation for what is happening in our world. God is opening the eyes of His children! Yeah, GOD!
We just returned from CUFI in Washington DC about a week ago and Dave and I were 2 of 3 who attended representing Idaho. There were 7 from Oregon.  Over all there were between 4 to 5000 of us, so the numbers were down reflecting the economic state of our country, but the enthusiasm couldn't have been greater. God is still working and is still raising up His people for such a time as this. The speakers were great and enlightening and there were many from the Jewish community there to experience what is happening among the Christians.

For us, our efforts to educate the Christian body is rapidly growing and we are thrilled at the responses of people who are realizing how important it is for us to be aware of the times we are living in. It won't be long before the Body needs to be ready to fully engage in the battle that will be waged against us. Even more we are seeing the efforts to erode our rights and freedoms and our faith. But, like never before we are seeing the Lord move in ways that only He could. We are so grateful for His faithfulness.  As of right now, He is continuing to supply our needs to keep the radio program on the 3 stations, but it is always a walk of faith. Not a bad place to be.

I am ever thankful for His provision and care and if I could tell you, Oh, how He loves you! You are the delight and joy of His heart and He is speaking more today than ever before. I pray that you know His Peace that passes understanding and His great faithfulness to you! Unbelievable!
Blessings!

Thy Word. . .

Are we really surprised? Times are changing faster than we could have ever anticipated. When the appointed time arrives we will be amazed at how fast the Father works!
I'm not a serious news watcher, but I have to say that the depression that is coming over our nation, the dividedness, the animosity is scary and sad.
Where are we headed? I'm seriously thinking that God is bringing down the gods of Egypt once again. Everything we've hoped for, desired, will now be governed by the government. Slavery comes once again. And our response will be - Our Redemption draweth nigh! (For those who might not understand that line it means - WE NEED JESUS!)
Here it is -
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade - kept in Heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the going of the Salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith - of greater worth the gold, which perishes even though refined by fire- may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls."
1 Peter 1:3--9

New and Different

Good Morning,

I'm sitting in the sun this morning basking in the warmth while all the time it's freezing cold outside. We've relocated to southern Idaho and are now taking the new challenges of a church here in the dessert. I want to encourage you today to hear the Lord's words to us. They come out of Joshua (Yoshua) 1:5b-9 "As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you or forsake you. Be strong and outrageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. . . Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified do not be discouraged for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." We belong to Him and He is directing our paths. I'm not so sure about America right now with the current leadership and trends. I'm wishing for something different. I'm praying for something different! Please Lord, don't let us continue like this. But, He gives me hope - in the prayer He spoke on the mount of Beatitudes - "lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil!" Let us take the land that He gave us to reestablish His Holiness and righteousness. We don't have to vote with the majority on this. . we just have to live it!

Another New Year

1/2/2012

It's a little early in the year to predict anything, but I can project, right? I've started the year with family and friends, and a cold! So, I project that this year will have some very positive associations and necessary recovery time! How about that?
But, seriously, I believe this year will be one of learning more about spiritual warfare and living closer to the heart of the Father. Recently I have been studying and teaching out of Romans and 1 John simultaneously. Romans 3, which should have been a fast chapter, become a very intense one while studying the life of faith. I guess I should say the testings of faith. Abraham (who is known as the father of our faith) had at least 10 testings that he had to go through. After studying that, I think I might be more inclined to ask for the rule book and just go by that. If given a list, (the Law), I could probably come closer to fulfilling that rather than have to go through the trials and testings that faith brings.
Somehow in our gentile, Christian lives, we forget that living and walking by faith is really not simple or necessarily easy. It is a conscious and determined mindset that is secured only by a relationship with the Father rather than the education of a doctrine or theology. If you don't know the Lord's heart and trust Him as He leads you, you will not understand what it means to rest in Him. Faith is not only believing, it is purposefully living out what He has shown you and directs for your life. No one else has to agree or understand, but you have a responsibility as a disciple to draw close to Him and learn from His heart what He directs for you. Faith really becomes the joy of the relationship as you know the heart of your Beloved, and I want to share something that I'm finding with Him.
He is showing me that it is my great honor and gift to give to those who I meet His gracious love for them. I know this sounds like old stuff, but what I am finding is that the world has only felt the disapproval and condemnation of Christians. They have never been exposed to the gracious favor of the Father! While the message of redemption is directed at "sinners" there is little grace and favor shown. He reminds me over and again that Jesus did not come to condemn the world but to love it and give His life for us, while we were still "sinners!"
This will be my News Years goal - I want to share the amazing favor and love of God to those who He allows me to live by, serve by, work with and share my life with. I will not say anything until I can love them like He does!
Happy New Year to you!

Israel feels like family!

11/28/2011

Wow, I've been home now for 3 weeks and looking back at our recent trip to Israel I realize more and more that I miss it!
I love sharing with family and friends when they get to travel with us. The fun spots like the Mediterranean Sea, the fish dinner at the Sea of Galilee and all the sites that bring this land to life!
I get horrendously teased for knowing where the good places are to shop, but really, don't you think that somebody ought to be there for you if you're going for the first time? It has been my pleasure to search out and research those most important places to find things like, date honey, good books, jewelry, Ahava creams, prayer shawls, and other important items that you need to find before you come home!

You have to have some of those great things to help you remember that you've been there and sometimes you need a gift or two. But, really, it isn't all about shopping with me. I do love the insights that happen when you least expect them. It seems that every day holds a new and breathtaking encounter with the Lord.
The Sea of Galilee with its' tranquility and quiet majesty. I know why Jesus loved this area. He could walk and think and pray with the beauty of His Father being displayed everywhere. The Mount of Beatitudes is extraordinary beautiful. The view overlooking the Sea is clearly one of my favorite places.
But this last trip took me on another journey - to the places people worship. I watched in Bethlehem, in Jerusalem and at several places where people gather to worship and I wondered - does it make any difference in their lives? Did they meet the Lord and did He speak to their hearts? Worship looked old and decaying at some sites, and others were so ornamented and glossy that it reeked of arrogance and pride. And what about the people? I wondered that if we are so caught up with the places that we forgot that Jesus came to save people, what are we worshiping?

Just some thoughts from one who watches. . .

Exploring Our Jewish Roots

9/27/2011

Picture
My journey into this realm of exploring our Jewish roots began about 15 years ago after I had taken a trip to Israel with my husband, Dave. I had been mildly interested in the things of the “Holy Land” simply because I had studied the Bible most of my life and had taught Sunday school classes and Bible studies for years. I love to study, so it seemed like a natural progression to finally get to see the place that I’d read about for so long. On that first trip I found my faith profoundly challenged. It was one thing to talk about Jesus and the stories in the Bible, but now I was looking at the places and they were no longer just an image that I’d concocted. I found myself looking at the Sea of Galilee and thinking – “Jesus walked here?” It is a real lake with real water and now I had to ask myself “Do I still believe it?” It became a moment of testing my faith and a transition from infancy to maturity. I remember looking out over the water at sunrise and seeing what I could imagine Jesus seeing and I listened to the sounds of the morning, realizing that I was taking a new step in becoming the disciple that I knew He wanted me to become. I am impacted by the society and culture that I’m in and I care deeply for the pain I see all around us. As a nurse, too, I am probably more keenly aware of pain at every level and I often jest that as a mother, a pastor’s wife and a nurse if I can’t heal you one way, I have at least two other ways to try! I’ll either feed you, pray for you or get the drugs! Jesus saw a hurting world, too, and I know that His heart was just as broken for hurting people as mine can be – more actually!

I want to share one of my first insights into this new world. It is very familiar passage to those of us who call ourselves believers in Jesus. It is Matthew 5, the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus is talking to his disciples and giving them a serious talk about life as a disciple. When He said we are the “salt of the earth” I didn’t realize that for Jewish ears, they knew exactly what He was saying. You see, every Sabbath table had a little dish of salt on it to represent the salt covenant mentioned in Leviticus 2:13. Salt was a covenant that actually was saying to them “If you have a pure heart of love for the Lord, you will become like salt, preserving and protecting the world, but if you have a wrong spirit or heart, you will also become like salt, corroding and corrupting the world.” Flash! – New picture! And how true. As Christians, we also have that same impact on the world. A pure heart to preserve and protect or an impure heart, corroding and destroying!  Now, what do you think about this?

Christians United for Israel Summit Held July 2011 in Washington DC

Don’t go to Washington D.C. in July if you hate hot weather. And not just high temperatures but an overwhelming, nearly unbearable heat that rises from the sidewalks, radiating from the endless stone buildings that, without a breeze, wraps itself around you like an electric blanket set to high. Add to that the humidity and... Whew! Don’t go to D.C. in July if you hate feeling wet and sticky from head to toe. Please, do not go to Washington D.C. in July… unless you love Israel. Don’t make the trip unless you want to make a real difference, not only in your own heart, but with your family and friends, within your church and with your state representatives. Don’t go to Washington D.C. in July unless you want to do your part to change the world. I want to change the world! This past July, we attended the summit called Christians United for Israel. We joined over 5,000 Christians and Jews from across the country in Washington D.C. to learn more about Israel, to pray for Israel and to show our support of the Jewish people. How did we do this? As a massive grass roots organization, we spent a day visiting the offices of each state representative and telling them the truth. Israel is our ally and we must support her, not only for biblical reasons, but for the safety and welfare of our own country. As I’m sure you already know, we support Israel because God tells us to. We support Israel because God blesses those who bless the Jews, His chosen people. And we support Israel because when Jews and Christians work together, there is no force on earth that can stop us. Next year, we hope to once again attend and show our support for the Jewish people and the land of
Israel. I can tell you that the heat won’t stop you and the humid temperatures will not keep you down when you are with thousands of Christians and Jews joining together for this cause. When you stand up for Israel and for God’s People, the Jews, you will understand the tremendous effect you can have on the world. So if you can… please join us in Washington D.C. next July for CUFI. Bring your camera, bring your deodorant, and bring a fan, and together we’ll stand on Capitol Hill for God and for Israel.
